Paul Kidd and Brian Walker have been Northern Soul DJ’s for over 30 years in Stockport and around the country. Brian also played bass guitar in a Soul Band called Soul Finger, who for over the 15 years together became the best Soul band in the North West.
However, two years ago their lead singer left to go solo leaving the band without a lead singer and after several attempts with other singers they could not find the right person to take over. Brian asked Paul if he fancied his luck at being a singer with the band. Paul had no experience as a singer turned down the offer. Persistence prevailed and eventually he agreed to join, on the condition that he would be able to sing Northern Soul songs, from Wigan and The Twisted Wheel era.
The band had been playing for many years songs such as Mustang Sally, My Girl etc. Although very good music it had been played out, and is played by almost every other soul band performing in the UK. Paul gave each band member a copy of a CD with a few Northern Soul records on it, and asked the band members to listen to it and if they agreed that it was OK, and they could recreate this sound then he would give it a go, they agreed and painstakingly worked out all the chords etc. After 12mths of hard work, and rehearsals twice a week it finally paid off.
Along the way we lost three members, who have been replaced. We are probably the worlds first Northern Soul cover band playing such classics as (I Walked Away/That's Not Love/I Need You/Come On Baby/They’re Talking About Me etc.). The band travels around the U.K. later this year to perform at Soul Weekenders etc, and also have been penned in for a European tour early 2011 year including Belgium, Germany and Spain. The band performs regularly in and around the North West including The Three Shires, Underbank Stockport, every second month. We have released a new CD "Do it to Soul" which has 15 superb tracks for your enjoyment. This is available for purchase through this site or at main R&B / Soul record shops in Manchester.
We are a seven piece band, Chris & Phil on Keyboards, Keith on Sax, Drumbags on Drums, Brian on Bass Guitar, Big Al on Lead Guitar, The Kidd & Sarah on vocals / backing vocals.
